Lake District

We had planned to be in Jordan for two weeks, but because of complications with Morag’s foot injury we sadly had to cancel that trip.

So we managed to book a last minute deal on this cottage in the Lake District just on the edge of Coniston Water, which is famous as the location for Swallows & Amazons.  The first few days were very wet and windy, so apart from the occasional stroll into Coniston village, we didn’t venure out all that much. Later in the week the weather improved so we were able to do 5 hour walks on Wed/Thu/Fri.

Walk 1 took us through Coniston and along the lakeside to the village of Torver, where we headed west a little then completed a circuit back to Coniston. Here’s a map of the walk.

Walk 2 From the cottage we walked north to Tarn Hows.

Walk 3 started at the nearby picuresque village of Hawkshead, which is packed full of Beatrix Potter shops, our walk took us from Hawkshead over to the shore of Windemere and back, sort of like this.

Here are some photos or see as a slideshow.
