Aye, that's us: France, May 2003

While Mal was working down south (Milton Keynes) we took the opportunity to take the car over to France on the ferry for a few days

The purpose of the trip was to check out the shopping in Calais and have a look around some of the WWI battlefield areas.

Ypres

We went over the border to Belgium to have a look at Ypres, famous for being part of the front-line in WWI, it was soon rebuilt just as it had been before the war.

France

On the same day we'd been to Ypres, we zipped back to France to the Commonwealth War Grave at VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on the Somme. There is the grave of Morag's great-Uncle George (Jacob) Miller, k.i.a. 14/11/1916.

You can see the relevant Debt of Honour entry at the CWG website.

George Miller was one of many originally buried in a small grave on the battlefield. Most of these small graves were later transferred to the larger cemeteries, but for those soldiers there is not an individual grave at the cemetery, just name and rank on the memorial wall.
