Thomas Hoult, of Loughborough, was charged with having, on the 17th instant, entered certain enclosed land at Burleigh for the puepose of taking game. Two keepers deposed to seeing Holt and two others in a field adjoining Burleigh Wood about two o'clock on the morning in question. Holt and another were spreading a net, and the keepers tried to capture them but they escaped, leaving behind three nets, two 75 and the other 60 yards long.Holt declared he was innocent and called two witnesses to prove an ablibi. He was however, convicted and sentenced to three months hard labour, and at the expiration of that perioed ordered to find sureties to keep the peace for a year. |
