PAINS WRONGLY DIAGNOSED
The fight made by several doctors to save the life of a colleague who died under an anaesthetic in Nottingham hospital was described at the inquest at Nottingham, Monday on Dr. Lionel Coghlan.
Dr. Coghlan's heart stopped, and an attempt was made to start it again by massage.
Dr. Charles Wilfred Coghlan, brother of the dead man, who was present, said "I was paralysed with emotion, and could not speak." The operation was made for the removal of an internal obstruction, but it was found that there had been an error of diagnosis, and there was no obstruction.
Dr. Hunt said he attributed the dead doctor's pains to angina pectoris. Had angina pectoris been diagnosed he would not have operated. Judging by the condition of the heart Dr. Coghlan could not have lived long. |
