Dundee, Perth, and Cupar Advertiser 09 April 1858 At Auchtermuchty, on the 2nd inst., Mr Henry Kilgour, manufacturer, Coaltown of Balgonie, by Markinch, to Janet, second daughter of Mr. William Adams, shoemaker, Auchtermuchty.

Fife Herald 14 October 1858 Coaltown of Balgonie - The Harvest-Home - Last week, in keeping with good old Scottish custom, Mr Henry Kilgour, farmer here, celebrated the ingathering of his corn crops by a "maiden feast". The reaming ale circled freely, and the many good things of this life were abundantly distributed. Dancing commenced under his "roof-tree" and was harmoniously carried out. The music was supplied by Mr. Kilgour, whose abilities as a violin player are not generally known. Such a "rantin' kirn" had not often been conducted hereabouts. Nothing is more creative of happy feelings than seeing the crops safely secured; and it is a fitting time for the grateful to rejoice.
